Challenge Triathlon in Walchsee in the Kaiserwinkl
In Tyrol in the Kaiserwinkl, every year in the summer, the Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee takes place. The triathlon over the half-distance first took place in2010 and attracts numerous sports enthusiasts to the district of Walchsee in Austria.
The triathlon route comprises a swim and a bike section, then a cycle section, which proceeds around Walchsee, to Kössen, then Schwendt and back. The athletes are always accompanied by a dreamy natural backdrop in idyllic surroundings. Blue Walchsee is in the valley, surrounded by the Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser, in the heart of the Alps. It is not just the triathletes, but spectators from across the globe, who are well catered for here.

Route 1 of Challenge Walchsee: Swimming at the foot of the Kaiser mountains
Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee starts with swimming. The swim route of the triathlon is 1.9 kilometres in length and proceeds from east to west – right through Walchsee. With its 24 degree water, the lake really is quite pleasant. The water is also drinking standard, as a clean, clear lake provides. This means the athletes have ideal conditions for setting best times.
Route 2 of Challenge Walchsee: Cycling through Kaiserwinkl
The swim is followed by the cycle. It covers 90 kilometres and proceeds from Walchsee to Kössen. It is a circuit which has to be completed twice. The circuit proceeds via Erpfendorf to Kirchdorf, up to Huberhöhe and via Schwendt back to Kössen.
The cycle tour proceeds through a few villages and includes an incline up to 12 percent, to get to Huberhöhe. A region with an abundance of bends and sharp turns are among the challenges that make up this part of triathlon in Austria in the Kaiserwinkl.
Route 3 of Challenge Walchsee: Run around the lake
There follows a 21.9 kilometre run to the finish. The final part of Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee is four circuits of wonderful Walchsee, finishing in the town of the same name. Runners get to enjoy the lake promenade, pass idyllic pastures, with views to the Kaiser massif and Walchsee always in sight. There are two feed stations per circuit to keep you fuelled.
